In this tutorial, we will see how to easily install Oracle Java 8 (JDK 8u45) on Fedora 21/20 or older and CentOS 7 or older using a simple bash script that will detect automatically your system architecture and download and install appropriate files on your computer.

Oracle JDK 8 (8u45) Installation

To install Oracle JDK 8 (8u45) on Fedora or CentOS, open the terminal and issue these commands (root privileges required):

su - 
cd /tmp 
wget http://tinyurl.com/pywwuqs -O java 
chmod +x java 
sh ./java

Next wait until the installation completes. You can then check current Java version using this command:

java -version
Here are the output you may get:

$ java -version
openjdk version "1.8.0_25"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_25-b18)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.25-b02, mixed mode)
